ptrace(2) cannot show floating point registers

[Sorry if this message is repeated. I posted it in linux.dev.kernel, but
I was told that these messages are not sent to the Linux kernel mailing
list].

The Linux kernel does not support fetching or setting the values of
floating point registers with the ptrace(2) system call. This makes very
difficult to debug numerical software under Linux.

I have written patches for 2.0.30, 2.1.47 and placed it in

ftp://jl1.quim.ucm.es/pub/ramon/

The patch for 2.1.47 should work with any later kernel.

If you find any problem please let me know.

I would like to see these patches in the standard kernel.

If there is any reason why they should be improved please let me know.
