This is the semi-official announcement of the modularization of the standard
linux sound drivers. The sound driver has been completely modularized by Alan
Cox, supported by Red Hat Software, Inc. I have tested the patch to some
degree in our lab, but they are now ready to receive more wide spread testing.
The patch is against 2.0.30 and the pre31's. It probably will work with other
similar kernels, but I haven't tried.

The patch can be found in ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/sound, along with some
_bare_ documentation. Sound Blaster support seems to work fine, and we are
still tracking down small problems with the other drivers. These drivers
should be considered alpha, but are usable.

Do not send bugs or problems, etc. to Hannu as he was not involved in this
work. Send all problems or solutions to me. I have also set up a mailing
list for the development of the modules. sound-list@redhat.com with the with
subscriptions being handled by sound-list-request@redhat.com, SL "subscribe".
