new 2.0.31-pre1 crashes

Just last night and this morning, I've had 2 different systems crash the
same sort of way running pre-patch-2.0.31-1. On both, init got stuck in
state D, and zombies began to accumulate. On the one last night, I caught
it in time and managed to reboot via softdog. On the one this morning, it
was too late, and I was able to do just an exec ps aux to see what was
going on, and then had to drive in to hit the reset button. Both systems
have sysvinit 2.62, and will likely be upgraded to 2.71 today.
