Known problem with kernels 2.0.28 through 2.0.30. Try getting
ftp://ftp.varesearch.com/pub/kernel/linux2.0.30-gcc2.7.2-6/linux-2.0.30.tar.gz.
That kernel is a 2.0.31 pre-release with memory management patches to
fix this problem.
