On my AST J50, Fn+F2 brings up the power management menu at any time.
One then can change the power settings there. I do have a 32bit
BIOS though. Also, it is important to boot with AC power plugged in,
otherwise the machine still goes to the slow mode. One also needs to
set to high performance mode before a suspend to disk. There is nothing
needs to be done between normal suspends (in memory).
