well, to run fsck on *any* filesystem, it shouldn't be
mounted at all... if you have a working bootdisk,
*temporarily* mount your linux partition and copy
fsck or e2fsck to your boot disk -- reboot the machine
off of the floppy and run the fsck while the linux
partition is *unmounted*.. just e2fsck the raw
linux partition device -- as in:

2efsck /dev/hda3

remember -- *don't* mount the linux partition to fsck...
