with the utime patch you get that information directly from /proc/cpuinfo
utime patch is for the ondemand microsecond resolution timers....
its available at http://hegel.ittc.ukans.edu/projects/utime

Also, The updated utime patch for 2.1.x kernels should be available soon
(in a weeks time) Details about this would be posted later
