Well, the fact is even those cards can do that; we have here a small
ethernet network (a dozen computers), allmost all of them have ne2000
clones, and we often have the 1 MB/s. But, during such a ftp, the linux
boxes spend much cpu, as the cards are not smart enough to do anything by
themselves. I once had a 486 which could not go faster than 500 kB/s with
the same card.

Anyway, when you do no nfs, ne2000 are just fine. PCI ne2000 clones are
some strange things which are useful when you are short of IRQ's and ISA
slots.
