I have a box here at CERN with the same board and I have not seen this
behavior either. In fact my machine is very stable and the FDDI
performance is really good, so I'd suspect that it may either be your
particular board or something else in the machine which causes trouble.

This is wrong, you'll need some updated net-tools for it to look and
behave correctly.

To my knowledge the official net-tools archives do not contain FDDI
support, at least the 1.33a archive I've got here doesn't have it
in. I do have some patches for this which I intended to submit earlier
but never got around to it, you can email me directly if you want a
copy (Jes.Sorensen@cern.ch).
