2.1.38 Floppy Fails

When I attempt to access the floppy drive, I get the following:
tar: Cannot open /dev/fd0: No such device or address
and the following message appears in /var/log/messages:
May 17 23:44:33 enterprise kernel: floppy0: Unable to allocate DMA memory

Config: 2.1.38 on on Dual Pentiums
