new NFS client and locking

I'm using the 2.1.x kernels on my workstation. Home directory NFS
mounted from our 2.0.x Server. I'm using some software which uses
fcntl() locking on files which are on the NFS server. With the kernels
with the old NFS code everything works fine. But the new kernels
block in the fcntl() call because the server doesn't implement network
locking. Upgrading our NFS server is no possibility (i'll be murded if
the thing crashes because it's a production machine). Is there any
possibility to restore the old NFS client behaviour, even it's a crude
hack, for the time beeing?
