PPP and 2.1.2[89] - LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests

Hi to all,

first of all and even using bandwidth :
congratulations and thanks to all of you linux wizards for doing
your excellent job, even if I can only share by mentioning possible
bugs and not writing any new code or supervising a module.

When I'm doing ppp with my ISP, /var/adm/syslog reports

<date and time> localhost pppd[664] : LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests

I have another (linux-)box in my office, the same thing here.
My ISP has an Ascend Router, so there is different hardware/firmware.
The problem _must_ be in patch-2.1.28, and does not go away in 2.1.29.

Back to 2.1.27 (now) all works well.

I have turned the debug option on, and it might be a timing problem
between the LCP packets sent and received.
The debug logs look different between Linux(1.9.n)-Linux(2.1.28+) and
Ascend-Linux(2.1.28+), but may have the same reasons for cancelling.
