Linux/AXP hang on network configuration

I have a Dec pc 150 Running RedHat 4.1/ linux-2.0.29.
All was fine until i reboot.
The system hangs on network configuration.
It cannot configure both eth0 and lo, it just hangs when initializing lo
after eth0 or eth0 after lo.
When running route once eth0 initialized it just displays one line and then
hangs.
There are no error messages and no logs :( so i really don't know what to
do.
Some help will be very much appreciated !
