X Lockup with 2.1.27 on Alpha (UDB)

Just compiled and installed 2.1.27, rebooted, and within the first 3 minutes
of after starting X, the machine locked up tight. No keyboard, couldn't telnet
in from another machine.

2.1.26 has been solid, with no hiccups.

Machine is a DEC UDB, 266MHz, 64MB, Diamond stealth 64 video vram (no TGA),
XFree86-3.2A, Redhat 4.1.
