Patches

I downloaded from shadow.cabi.net in /pub/Linux
2.1.26-patch1.gz
2.1.26-patch2.gz
2.1.26-patch3.gz

I heard that they were the latest patches for Linux 2.1.26.

These patches did NOT patch cleanly.

My setup is: /usr/src/linux-2.1.20
/usr/src/linux-2.1..... (many other versions)
/usr/src/linux-2.1.26
/usr/src/linux (simlink to /usr/src/linux-2.1.26)

My attempt:

# cd /usr/src
# gunzup <2.1.26-patch1.gz >patch1
# gunzip <2.1.26-patch2.gz >patch2
# qunzip <2.1.26-patch3.gz >patch3
# patch <patch1 (Many complaints about reversed patches)
# patch <patch2 (Many complaints about reversed patches)
# patch <patch3 (Many complaints about reversed patches)

The result was many files for "sound", i.e., sm_* in the DEFAULT directory.
Futher, the linux source now has many 0 length files in
/usr/src/linux/drivers/sound.

Now, the source tree DID compile, probably because I don't have sound
stuff enabled.

The system DID boot! However, the SMP stuff that I thought was going to
be fixed is stil broken. portmap select() fails and sendmail's accept()
fails and kills the processes.

This is not a complaint! This is information only. I have a very standard
setup here so the patches should not have failed.

Hopefully Linus (or somebody) will soon get an updated version into the
general distribution with the fixes I know have already been applied.

Cheers,
Dick Johnson
