While it's true that the SPAM is something we can all do without, I
don't think we can do without "free" access to this (and other) linux
mailing lists.

Remember: Most of the developers aren't running linux as a normal user
or even a normal sys-admin. The perspective of people who aren't
experts in unix and linux is extreamly valuable.

A good example is my job. I write scripts and programs for Tandem's
Guardian API, to help system administrators. I'm also the admin for a
Tandem system. If I didn't do both, my scripts would be very hard to
use. But since I have access to the day to day stuff, I have a much
better idea of what is required of my scripts and programs.

While we can't expect (reasonably) that every developer sys-admin a
system and act like a newbie, we can make use of the newbie's and
sys-admins out there and listen to their input.

This is what makes linux great: "Every nickel counts"
