sd_mod won't initialize/hangs

Trying to mount my zip drive on a adaptec 152x board, the mount just hangs
on trying to load/initialize the sd_mod module.

scsi_mod 27552 0 (autoclean) [sd_mod]

It will just sit in this state and never allow loading of the 152x driver
module until the modprobe/insmod of sd_mod is killed.

The kernel is 2.1.26 + 2.1.26-patch3, modutils-2.1.23, and mount-2.6b1.
It's been doing this since at least 2.1.25, maybe 2.1.24.
