I think it's the new code in arch/i386/boot/setup.S. There was a big
change in it going from 2.1.21 to 2.1.22. I get the same error only it's
reports 2Mb. It works on my friends DX2-66 with 40Mb RAM. My 486DX4-100
with 24Mb failed with the less than 2Mb, but booted with 40Mb installed.
Only problem being that linux only reported 24Mb. I can't remember the
486 motherboard type off hand.

Now I have the same problem with my P166+, 48Mb RAM on a Abit PR5
motherboard. It'll probably work if you make the define
STANDARD_MEMORY_BIOS_CALL. I haven't tried it, and I'm not sure where
you'd have to define it.
