binfmt-0064

The new 2.1.24 version, together with modutils-2.1.24 gives me this
strange error:

can't locate module binfmt-0064

I understand that it is looking for the binfmt-aout module (it gives
the error when I try to execute an aout program) but why is it looking
for it by number ? Shall a line in conf.modules such as the following
be enough ?

#/etc/conf.modules
alias binfmt-0064 binfmt-aout
