small 2.1.21 compilation problem? patch

i needed this to get 2.1.21 compiled ... maybe i've hosed something in my
setup as i havent seen anyone posting about such problems on this list,
but anyways here is my totally incorrect patch-imitation for those who
might have similar problems:
