It might, but it shows that something is hard-locked on the SCSI bus (I
have a smart terminator with lights for req and ack). using kill -9, it
won't kill the process that this has occured on. Sometimes it dies if I
can convince the SCSI bus to abort (usually involves shutting off
something on the SCSI chain).
This is a deadlock condition - I can't unmount the device because a
process owns it, and I can't kill the process because it is stuck in the
middle of a tranfer with the device.
