MODULES!!!!

After putting the following 2 lines in /etc/rc.d/rc.S:

rm -f /boot/System.map
ln -s /boot/System.map-`uname-r` /boot/System.map

and obviously copying the correct files, I am unable to load certain
modules; I tried kernels 2.0.1, 2.0.27 & 2.1.15 and I always got the
same result: some modules (e.g. ppp, nfs, softdog) work (they get loaded
correctly), others (e.g. dummy, binfmt_aout, hpfs)don't, that is insmod
crashes with segmentation fault and leaves an uninitialized module (as
lsmod says). I tried with modules-2.1.13 & 2.1.8.
The only thing I can't explain to myself is the presence of
/boot/zSystem.map; I also tried to rename it and link zSystem.map to
System.map --- nothing.

Please give me a help!!
