Netstat [li]

I come home and always find tons of connections some still say ESTABLISHED
but were dcc's from 4 hours ago.. Some ftp says CLOSED or idle or
something when i type 'netstat'

i run 2.1.14 and it doesnt seem to kill connections that are dead.. hmm..
is this a kernel bug or is netstat lying??
