gdb with FPU support for Linux?

As far as I knew, the current gdb 4.16 does not support access to FPU
registers on i386-linux architecture.

Is there any interest to write this support?

I'll gladly take any pointer to information on how this should
be implemented, i.e. what is the API between linux kernel
and user program to access FPU regs of ptraced process.

Or may be I'm wrong and somebody already do this?
