RARP and Kerel Panic

When I boot the 2.0.27 from floppy I get something like:

"Sending RARP request..... unable to handle NULL pointer at address...
Kernel Panic ..."

I think the network card is 3com, and sorry for not copying the exact
message and text of kernel panic ,but I don't have two comps next to each
other, I'll do it later, but just wanted to know if anyone has
experienced similar problem?
