I hope your day was going better than mine.
Today (I started about 5hrs ago...) I tried to use two of my disks as
one raid-0 disk using Linux kernel version 2.0.26. Unfortunately this
failed and resulted in many crashes. I have saved excessive logs from
syslog, so if you want to investigate this, please drop me a line (I
don't want to flood the list).
I have finally solved the problem.
Hardware:
386DX40/8MB
Aha-1542B, ST43400, DSP5200
/dev/hda as / and swap partition
Software :
2.0.21 and 2.0.24 through .26
libc 5.2.18
e2fs 1.0.6
The crash-initiating program was "mke2fs /dev/md0".
The kernel crashed with the following constellation (.config):
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_SD=m
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_MD=m
CONFIG_MD_LINEAR=m
CONFIG_MD_STRIPED=m
Everything seems to be fine (until now... *knock on the desk*):
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_SD=y
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_MD=y
CONFIG_MD_STRIPED=y
Therefore I think something went wrong during modularization of the MD
stuff.
I would be very glad, if this would be fixed some day. Anyway thanks
for the great kernel/system. :-)
Have a pleasant weekend,
Joey
