/proc through NFS

hello,
Using NFS, is it possible to access a server's /proc filesystem
from the client side ?
I'am able to mount the filesystem and even list the directories but
unable to 'read' any of the files (like 'version' 'uptime'...)
The NFS and MOUNT daemons are run with the --re-export options.

Could someone tell me why the /proc files cannot be accessed remotely
since the file operations for the /proc are anyway executed on the server
side.
(i'm using version 1.2.13)
If this out of topic, please direct me to an appropriate forum.

Thanx in advance

praveen
