umount problems with 2.0.17

I sometimes have problems umounting NFS filesystems under
2.0.17. The umount process just sits there. I can control-C it and the
prompt comes back. I then have to edit /etc/mtab to remove the entry
(the filesystem is NOT mounted, since there is nothing under the
mountpoint anymore). This problem does not occur with 2.0.0
I'm running mount from util-linux-2.2
