SIGBUS while compiling

ugluk:~/linux# gcc -v

gcc version 2.7.0

note that signal 7 != signal 11 (sigsegv). signal 7 = sigbus.
this makes me think that the compiler is addressing longwords on
non-dword boundaries. does linux make use of the AC processor bit
at all ?
