Hmm, we could have something like PID:TID, where TID is 0 for all "normal"
processes, and for the first thread (hmm, procfs could omit it for TID=0).
It'll also assumed to be 0 if it's not given in a syscall (or if done
right, it'll be implied as 0 from what you say at the end of your mail).
