adding another 16meg to make 32meg

Hi,

Last night I added another 16meg to the linux box to make it 32meg, and
when I booted the kernel really spat the dummy by bringing up ALOT of
swap_free errors, and swap file size complaints, which then would end on
a general protection fault.

After removing the memory and rebooting, alot of the file system had to
be fixed, and now I believe my swap file is ruined, because when I start
to use it (by starting xwindows for example), the machine hangs.

This is what top currently shows:

10:16am up 18 min, 6 users, load average: 0.01, 0.09, 0.15
49 processes: 48 sleeping, 1 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped
CPU states: 1.3% user, 3.6% system, 0.0% nice, 95.2% idle
Mem: 14880K av, 14312K used, 568K free, 10556K shrd, 3712K buff
Swap: 41324K av, 0K used, 41324K free

and I've always been used to at least 2megabytes of swap for the sleeping
processes. I did not change anything in my kernel or boot sequence when
adding the ram, I think I may have had to.

I'm using 1.2.13 and would like to get 32meg in the system. Any ideas as to
what the problem could be?

Thanks.
