Hi

There is a new version of the 3c59x.c "Vortex" driver available, the
version included with the new kernels is 0.13 but the newest one
available is 0.22, the newest version is available at

http://cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov/linux/drivers/3c59x.c

Here's a quote from Donalds www-page

-----------
Linux 1.3.8* version

I have released an updated version of 3c59x.c which fixes the
following problems

Serious transmit timeout problems with the newest 8K buffer boards
Promiscuous mode is not correctly set
EISA boards are not correctly detected

The new version also supports the shared interrupts and includes the
alpha version of the automatic media selection code, which is enabled
by default. Please send reports about its success or failure of these
features! (As if I have to ask about failure reports ;->)
-----------

I have tested this driver since the day it was released (16.4.1996)
and it has worked for me sice that (i'v with allmost every
kernel-patch released since that time)...

Unless there is some known problems with this driver (Donald, do you
know of any...) I think it should be included in the kernel
distribution...
