"reveal cdrom" does not specify the type of your drive - it is
just as informational as "pc from the big warehouse".

Try to find out the brand or at least the interface type of
your drive.
Most newer warehouse cdrom drives use the IDE/ATAPI interface
type: the drive has a jumper for "master" or "slave", the interface
is configurable for at least "secondary IDE" (address 0x170, IRQ 15).
The only useful driver for these drives is ide-cd.
Sometimes you still find drives using the Panasonic/SoundBlaster
interface. As far as I know, only Funai is recently producing
some - named E2800 now, formerly MK4015 or CD200F. Some dirt-cheap
good old CR-562 or CR-563 (Panasonic, CreativeLabs) are still flying
through the stores, too, but I guess the production has stopped.
The only useful driver for these drives is sbpcd.
Anyway - under Linux, you never have a choice between any two cdrom
drivers; there is no driver or just one for each drive. If in doubt,
try to find out facts and check against linux/Documentation/cdrom/*.
