486 -> Pentium

I just upgraded my 486 66mhz to a Pentium 100mhz the other day and have
had a couple of problems. The first problem I've already sent to the
list, but this new problem is something a little weird. It involves gcc
sig 11, but I do have a solution for this system. I had the specs file
updates for the -fno-reduce-strength bug already done plus a couple of
other 486 optimizations, so when I upgraded my motherboard I added the
Pentium optimizations as well. I started getting various problems with
sig 11's and pipe errors almost immediately. First I noticed that mc
(mouseless commander) would core dump at high/low speed when "viewing"
the contents of a zip file. So being brave I recompiled it. Problem
solved. I can now view the contents of a zip file.
I was about to read news and had a core dump. I figured the recompiling
mc helped so I recompiled tin. End of problem. Although I have gotten a
couple of Disconnected from news server messages at startup.. It's almost
like it's tooo fast, the networking code hasn't caught up with the
current code.
Popclient is next. I've had a couple of errors with it.. So I've now
recompiled it and we'll have to see what happens. (popclient was giving
me sig pipe errors). I sure hope I don't have to recompile everything yet
again on this system. But it sure looks like I'll have to compile quite
abit.
