My root partition /dev/sda1 is broken. So I can't boot. Even as I booted with
/dev/hda2 as root, I wasn't able to mount /dev/sda1 as a normal partition
(ext2 filesystem). In fact it gets mounted, but in a funny :-( way.
The directory entry looks like:
?-w----r-- 77 39424 2396557050 Apr 12 1977 mnt
When I look at the partition table of /dev/sda, it seems to be ok:
/dev/sda1 Linux native
/dev/sda2 Linux swap
If I do an "e2fsck /dev/sda1" it says:
e2fsck: /dev/sda1 is clean, no check.
Doing "e2fsck -f /dev/sda1" says:
e2fsck: root inode isn't a directory
Please help, I didn't do any strange things to my hard disc. I just discovered
this situation when I booted my computer yesterday evening.
Unfortunately my root partition is 500 MB with lots of data and config work
in it and I don't have a backup as I don't have a DAT drive.
So PLEASE !!!
Michael
