~1.3.24 will cause grief to some LILO users ...

Hello folks!

I was indeed relieved to see my CD ROM working again under Linux
kernel 1.3.23, just to find is buggy under .24 again. Does anyone
know where this problem might originate from?

1.3.24 prints out the following error when trying to access the
CD-ROM, at least with audio CDs (data CDs are partially corrupt sometimes):
Sep 8 19:45:27 firepit kernel: <6>CDROM (ioctl) reports ILLEGAL REQUEST.

Here's an extract from my dmesg to show my configuration:
Seagate ST-01/ST-02 options: ARBITRATE SLOW_HANDSHAKE FAST32
scsi0 : Seagate ST-01/ST-02 at irq 5, address 0xCC000
scsi : 1 host.
Vendor: QUANTUM Model: LP105S 910109405 Rev: 3.1
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Detected scsi disk sda at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
Vendor: TOSHIBA Model: CD-ROM XM-4101TA Rev: 2483
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Detected scsi CD-ROM sr0 at scsi0, channel 0, id 2, lun 0
scsi : detected 1 SCSI cdrom 1 SCSI disk total.
SCSI Hardware sector size is 512 bytes on device sda

The connected Quantum drive seems to work fine, the ST-02 driver is compiled
into the kernel under 1.3.24.

In hope for help,
