Loading Linux DIRECTLY through BIOS

I would like to see someone sell a Linux-specific BIOS that does not
contain all the unused calls. It would also be nice to see it know the
format of the ext2 among other filesystems and know to look for #1,
/vmlinuz, if that is not there, then /vmlinux. Even add an option to
press say '1' at bootup to make it load the floppy. Am I right that it would
optimize things at all? Would it be practical? I sure hate having a BIOS
that is practically specific.
