I just built and installed 1.3.23

Booting now appears impossible: it hangs cycling through a series of
messages relating to hdc: (sorry, I'm one place and the system is another,
the rest of this is from (poor) memory. . .) over and over. It went something
like this:

hdc: drive open
hdc: something-about-irq 0x58
hdc: something-about-irq 0x58
hdc: ATAPI reset
hdc: something-about-irq 0x58
hdc: something-about-irq 0x58
hdc: ATAPI reset
. . . etc.

If everybody and hisher brother isn't getting this problem, I'll repost
with a completely correct listing of the series of messages.

This is a Mitsumi ATAPI-type drive. Various problems that I had with other
recent 1.3.x kernels reflect messages read here: things went screwy beginning
with 1.3.20, particularly when I tried to read the CDROM as a regular audio CD.
