IRC problem

I've been having a wierd problem with my IRCii client and Linux kernel
1.3.22. I compiled and ran the new kernel just fine, and I was able to
run all of my programs just fine (after tweaking the new "TERM=linux"
thing). However, when I typed "/help" in my IRC client to recieve online
help, IRC provided the following message:
*** Error during help function: No such file or directory
And left me trying to figure out if when I changed kernels I accidentally
changed some file permissions or something. IRC help files are located
in /usr/local/lib/irc/help/ and everything seemed in place. And, to my
surprise, IRC help worked fine when I rebooted the older (1.2.13)
kernel. Any ideas?
