I'm guessing that it has to do with slip_proto being unregistered if you
aren't compiled as a module, since the problem doesn't occur in the latter
case. And possibly to do with the kmalloc() rewrite. I don't know any of
this code, though, so no warranty is provided on my observations.... ;)
