I had problems running depend.awk with gawk 2.13.? (sorry,
lost the patchlevel, maybe it was 2): all the filenames
in the dependency files were without paths which make
didn't like at all. I installed gawk 2.15.6 and all works
as expected.
There should be a warning in the kernel README about this
pitfall.
