lp1, oops, etc...

First of all, I'm using 1.2.8 on a standard 486 with 8 megs of ram. It
was installed (upgraded to) the new slackware release from Yggdrasil. My
problems are these:

1) constant "lp1 out of paper" with no printer even connected to system.

2) when I compile my flight sim code it now needs termio.h added to one
of the files. Is this an "upgrade" on going from gcc 2.5.8 to 2.6.3 or
2.7.0? If so GNU should be beaten severly.

3) as a result of running the binary of the flight sim, as soon as it
starts I get an oops, and all syslogs messages start going to EVERY damn
terminal connected. includes all virtual consoles and telnet sessions.

I'm in desparate need of some help resolving these problems (I could care
less about the lp1 problem) I *NEED* to make this flight sim code run
like it did before under 1.2.8 with 1.1.18 utils...HELP!

I'm also not terribly impressed by how neatly a simple upgrade is doing
it's best to ruin months of work. (if you kind folks hadn't guessed
already, I'm *beyond* incredibly angry at this situation *grin*)
