1.3.16/17 Hating my computer(SLIP problem???)

This list still working? Been awefully quite lately :)
In kernels 1.3.16 and 1.3.17 I've been having a serious problem. During
SLIP initialisation, I get an error about a function not being found and
then that the sl0 device is unlinked.(For some reason the messages aren't
logging so I can't get them...they fly by too quick to get a good read)
Then, on startup of lpd, I get the following:

The system then boots and I can log in, but normal programs like dip die
with a segmentation fault and register dumps not unlike the rest. I can,
however, move my old kernel back into place and rerun lilo. After a
reboot, everything is fine.
