NFS problems (1.3 kernels)

I have been doing some heavy NFS thrashing with my Linux box,
connected to a Sun (IPC) server on an ethernet link.

After some time I get LOTS of NFS server timed out messages
although the server seems fine and not at all slow (for an IPC!).
The Linux machine then hangs. Sometimes 'Can't get a free page'
appears in the log. I reboot the machine and all is fine again
until I do hit NFS hard again. Light use doesn't seem to cause
a problem.

I though it may be something with the lance ethernet driver at
first, but I've verified the problem is the same on another Linux
machine with an NE2000 card.

In a last attempt to be able to continue to use the system I
took the 8K read and write buffers out of the NFS options. I haven't
had the problem since.

This has all only been happening this week. I can't remember
the last kernel which didn't exhibit the problem, but I think it
was around 1.3.11 or 1.3.12 - I'm not sure.
