OTOH maybe we should do

bitmap = get_bitmap_events_by_type(type); // new, return keybit or swbit
if (!bitmap_subset(bits, bitmap, n_events)) {
error = -EINVAL;
goto out;
}

... and leave the rest of the loop as is?
