[squashfs] $VERSION and $VERSION_DATE?

Hi,
I was wondering why OverlayFS gives no success message on loading the module
Snippet from Linux-Next (next-20130313):
[ fs/squashfs/super.c ]
...
static int __init init_squashfs_fs(void)
{
int err = init_inodecache();
if (err)
return err;
err = register_filesystem(&squashfs_fs_type);
if (err) {
destroy_inodecache();
return err;
}
printk(KERN_INFO "squashfs: version 4.0 (2009/01/31) "
"Phillip Lougher\n");
return 0;
}
...
And why do you hardcode that $VERSION and $VERSION_DATE here?
Is $VERSION_DATE still correct?
Regards,
