Because that entry fixes IDENTIFY. My version does not seem to have any
problems with IDENTIFY. Or maybe it has but kernel can now handle it
automatically:
usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4
usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
scsi5 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
usb-storage: device found at 4
usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning
scsi scan: INQUIRY result too short (5), using 36
scsi 5:0:0:0: Direct-Access WDC WD40 0BB-00AUA1 18.2 PQ: 0 ANSI: 1
sd 5:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg3 type 0
