OK, route cache settings are hard to tune.
Try these settings :
echo 1 >/proc/sys/net/ipv4/route/gc_interval
echo 2 >/proc/sys/net/ipv4/route/gc_elasticity
echo 150 >/proc/sys/net/ipv4/route/gc_timeout
echo 8192 >/proc/sys/net/ipv4/route/gc_thresh
You might want to boot adding this "rhash_entries=8192" in your kernel boot string (append="rhash_entries=8192" in lilo.conf)
(If you change rhash_entries, change also /proc/sys/net/ipv4/route/gc_thresh accordingly)
You might also try this patch.
