Ok Patrick, but /sys/firmware is not created.

I using now module-init-tools 3.00-pre10

modprobe -v -s edd
insmod /lib/modules/2.6.5-1.358/kernel/drivers/firmware/edd.ko

and /proc/kmsg shows:
