i386 smp (on pentium IV with HT) kernel (2.4.26) crash atsched.c:681

From: Li Shu
Date: Thu Jun 10 2004 - 10:39:09 EST

Hi,

One of my email server crashed last night complaining about a kernel bug at
sched.c line 681. It is a P4 with HT running a 2.4.26 smp kernel that I
compiled from the stock 2.4.26 source. I did a google search on 2.4.26
kernel with sched.c, but did not notice any discussion of like problems.
I took a look at the source code of sched.c, line 681 is in the panic
routine, which complains that idle task is not syncing. The system
came back up after a hard reboot without any problem, and is running
smoothly so far.

Has anyone else had any similar problem? (As the system is left running all
the time, I am also wondering whether this may be caused by a memory error.)
Would very much appreciate any pointers on the cause of the crash. Thanks!

Here are some details on the crash and the system. They are separated
by headings begins with ==>. (see attached for the kernel .config file)
Please let me know if any other information would be useful. Thanks.
